How the Autowatch Ghost immobiliser works

A simple explanation of how the Autowatch Ghost protects your car — the PIN sequence, CAN-bus integration, service mode and why it's invisible to thieves.

How the Ghost Works

An immobiliser that asks for you, not a key.

The Autowatch Ghost connects to your car's CAN data network — the internal communication system the vehicle's own electronics use. Because it talks to the car this way rather than cutting into the original wiring, there's no box on show, no flashing LED and no aerial. There's nothing for a thief to spot, and nothing to unplug.

To drive, you enter a sequence using buttons the car already has — on the steering wheel, the door panels or the centre console. Until that sequence is entered, the engine will not start. Since the Ghost doesn't rely on the key fob at all, a relayed signal or a cloned key gets a thief precisely nowhere.

For everyday life, a temporary service mode lets you hand the car to a garage or valet without revealing your sequence. And because the connection is non-invasive, it doesn't affect your manufacturer warranty. Fitted properly — hidden and tidy, the way I do it — it's about the most effective theft prevention you can give a modern car.
